AFTER a year-long pause due to the lockdown and other Covid-19 restrictions, the Laid Back Sessions – a lifestyle event, is making its return next month.

Dubbed as the “Kasi edition”, the upcoming get-together will make its debut showcase to the township market, as opposed to its usual fivestar graded venues, and taking the brand back to the people.

The quarterly event, launched in 2012, aims to give an entire lifestyle experience that is customised to suit the four seasons in the year with music at its core and pairing the experience with food and fashion.

The sessions are co-founded by Sandile Nhlapo and DJ Sipho Mzimela, born and bred in Daveyton, who both wanted to bring an usual cultural experience to enjoying music.

An experience that is cushioned by elegance and class, said Nhlapo.

“It’s a concept that initially started in 2011, when we saw the gap of creating a session that offers a holistic experience, like how the Laid Back Sessions do.

“Our first instalment at News Café Emperors Palace was sold out, which indicated to us that we are on the right track,” said Nhlapo.

“We pride ourselves on being a sophisticated lifestyle brand that delivers class and quality.

“The way we package these sessions is by providing excellent ambiance at our hosting venues that sets the standard.

“By doing so, attendees pride themselves in dressing up to a level of elegance and thus creating an unforgettable day of great music from Mzansi’s most respected music maestros,” he added.

This year, the Laid Back Sessions will see acts such as Thabo “T-Bose” Mokwele, MoG, Wilson B Nkosi, Msizi Khoza, Steven Khoza, Otarel, Bobo, Spro and Sipho Mzimela himself, blessing the attendees with great music.

And with necessary restrictions in place to help curb the spread of Covid-19, this year the sessions will downscale from its usual 2 000 attendees to just the required 100 attendees of the indoor guests, but promises to deliver the same standard that the attendees have come to expect.

“The response is already overwhelming to this year’s edition and we are excited to give yet another session that will be etched in people’s memories.

“We hope that this one will be extra special, to help give the attendees a breather from the troubles that we are facing globally, just an afternoon of fun and relaxation under the soothing sounds of music,” he added.

The Laid Back Sessions 2021 will be hosted at the Kwa Thema Old Age Home under the theme “class and elegance”.
