Leg-up for aspiring financial deal makers

STAFF REPORTER

CAPE Town-based fintech company Invictus Capital is looking for graduates with backgrounds in commerce and business to apply to join their skills programme.

“In essence, we need any individual who can look at the future of money and is passionate about pushing themselves to the limit,” said Haydn Hammond, who leads the sales team at Invictus Capital.

He said well-known local and international banks have always been attractive training grounds for those looking at graduate programmes, but fintech provides more opportunities at a faster rate than going the more traditional route.

“Graduates at Invictus Capital work at the coalface, almost immediately, and can start doing deals within several months, rather than in several years, that is typically the case at a bank,” Hammond said.

This also makes the earning potential more lucrative from the start.

“We focus on international hedge and pension funds with an alternative asset focus. So, while we may have headquarters in Cape Town, we truly have an international footprint and are looking for those graduates who want to harness exciting opportunities around the world,” Hammond said.

With almost all the company’s clients operating offshore, graduates would have the opportunity for international travel (once the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted) to meet clients offshore, and attend and speak at some of the most influential international conferences.

“We want our graduates to enter a room and be intuitive about reading a client and understanding when they are looking to transact. They must also have the skills (and we help with that) to negotiate calmly when the time comes. The company wants candidates with Honours or Master’s in finance or similar qualifications.

“Considering these graduates need to hold their own in front of clients and be comfortable in presenting and meeting with them, confidence is a must,” Hammond said.
